Why would we change a system that has not only supported the world, but that which draws people from all over the world? Doing away with or changing who we are because our system of government is not perfect is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

As to the dependents of current social programs, try to take those benefits away. It would be characterized as cruel to those that receive them. So, how is it that beneficiaries are not dependent, if it would be cruel to eliminate those programs? The first argument against elimination would be that so many depend on them. Many of which do not pay taxes, by the way.
