In my opinion, you can compare an EC V to a hydro turbine to the amount that anyone is affected. Most cars have piston engines, most Mazda RX-7's have rotary engines. Nobody driving a car cares how the engine works--they just care that it moves the car. Consumers would notice, however, if one type of engine lasted only 1/3 as long, cost more or was less efficient.

Yes, it often depends on which salesperson gets there first but when you're talking a $30,000 unit and people don't see friends and neighbors with one, they're forced to do the math. When you buy a $30,000 car, you think money = transportation and status. When you buy a $30,000 transducer which you will most likely never see again, you think about where you will install it, installation costs and return on your investment. Even a hapless consumer can compare apples to apples and certainly wouldn't buy, for example, a $30,000 certificate of deposit which offered 0% interest.
