Power walker, Makemydaze, and jimmyz,
While we are on Merck, why would Merck be on a 2 man panel with Anavex to wrap up the conference coming up in July on psychiatric diseases?
So Merck agrees to be in an exclusive group with Anavex, and then participate with Anavex on a panel discussion about precision medicine and psychiatric diseases?

Merck isn't exactly trailblazing in the CNS category, as Xena has pointed out by way of a list she posted a couple of days ago. Merck and Anavex makes a lot of sense especially if you pay attention to the clues...

Power....some very good points. Not sure where Scott Gottlieb will land after occupying the most powerful position in the US food and drug world. Usually there is a period where he can't occupy a position in a commercial entity that does business with a Federal Agency that he administered. So a consortium would be a good possibility as would going back to WS where his expertise would be very valuable to the drug industry. As a cancer survivor and having seen the progress in his Cancer Center of Excellence, oncology could also be a focus in medical research or project management. He is a sharp individual and will be a outstanding catch for the organization who acquires his services.

As to Anavex being named to the Consortium, I second your thoughts on Anavex's standing/reputation within the Bio/Pharma world. Somewhat like being called up from the Minors to play with "Big Boys" during the spring season. Now let's see if "Big Boys" will try to sign them.

nidan, is it possible Dr. Gottlieb will be appointed to lead the consortium?

That's a great idea. He has demonstrated he is capable and driven to make changes. We have witnessed Dr.M. doing a "PLAN B" strategic plan and win.
Merck is certainly a big, well respected organization which has both medical device and pharma scope. They have not put the consortium together to just watch, they will act. I look for a lot more science and a lot less massive-YUGE-trial time in the future of CNS disease treatment development.
IMO, if they present a breakthrough of some kind then that will provide momentum to drive bigger changes. Regulatory bodies do not do change easily.

It may be splitting hairs, but between Neuronetrix and Anavex (they've been partnering for several years now) wouldn't Merk and others be the invitees? The consortium is shown as a division of Neuronetrix. BP are the ones playing catch up. I'm still happy Anavex is on this team, but I think the roles are more different than what's being conveyed.
