This analysis of Barr's 'memo' corroborates the theory that Barr will not stand in the way of charges of obstruction of justice against Trump, nor be inclined to soft-pedal Mueller's conclusions and recommendations.
Indeed, Democrats and Trump critics should be encouraged by Barr’s analysis. Put aside that they should be impressed by its high quality. Barr is very far from saying that a president may never be prosecuted for obstruction. Invoking the Nixon and Clinton precedents as support, he asserts that.....
if a President knowingly destroys or alters evidence, suborns perjury, or induces a witness to change testimony, or commits any act deliberately impairing the integrity or availability of evidence, then he, like anyone else, commits the crime of obstruction.
Barr could not be more clear that enforcing the obstruction laws would not impair the chief executive’s “plenary power over law enforcement” because presidential discretion does not include the commission of “inherently wrongful, subversive acts.” Again, the president is not above the law.
Barr is on the record as being good friends with Mueller. By all accounts he was an ethical and effective AG in his first iteration in that job. He will not likely want to besmirch his professional reputation in his 'last roundup'. IMO.
It's too 'deep state' to suggest that Barr angled for the job precisely because he was horrified as he observed Trump's behavior and the indictments mount. That he wrote his memo because he knew it would find it's way to Trump, that Trump would draw the understandable but mistaken conclusion that Barr would be the 'protector of Trump' that Sessions could not be. That Barr believed he could be appointed, confirmed and effective in protecting his good friend's investigation that he believed must continue to conclusion.
Yep, that's the deep state argument that Trumpanzees will cling to as thing fall apart. For once, they might be right. LOL!
