Yes, she'd have learned to shoot before starting up her specialty. But I don't think it's a given that anyone who's been in the military is a good shot, or even owns guns.
Lindsey Graham, for example, was a JAG. He'd never have needed to use a gun. But probably he enjoys hunting. It's really a matter of what interests you. There're probably even Republicans who don't shoot or own guns.
