My feeling about it was that men do not consciously think about precautions that they should take every day while women take precautions automatically without thinking about it.

If you go to the store in the evening do you park anywhere or do you look for a well lit spot as close to the store as you can?

I suspect some men get it regardless of what the prof says.

Some men hear it, and sympathize. But they've never experienced it, or had to deal with it.
