You're obsessed with labels as opposed to ideals. There was no democratic socialism in Venezuela. Hugo may have started out with an ideal... but in the end he was simply another megalomaniac without any constitutional restraints, a key component of whole concept. Calling yourself socialist doesn't make you one, certainly not a democratic one.
Is China a Republic? Is the Democratic People's Republic a democracy? How about the old East Germany... the Deutsche Demokratische Republik.
Places that can rightly defined as democratic socialist countries have a pretty good track record. I'm not sure you can point to any libertarian ones, but I'd be interested in watching you torture that concept a little.
As much as I'm sure that re polluting America and the rest of our surrounds would probably get you as close to orgasm as you've come in years (or ever...
