Monroe, that was a post from the heart.

Both sets of my grandparents were substance Oklahoma farmers. I recognize many of the things you spoke of. As a boy I spent a lot of time on my paternal grandparents farm.

I came to know the people & the culture of their little community well. I left OK in 1967 and returned in 2007. I've settled 3 miles south of that little community.

The changes are shocking. The place isn't crime ridden, but nothing like the hard working, peaceful little place it was all those years ago.

Indolence and drugs were unheard of back yonder. Now both are common. In parts of the Country, I imagine that corporate farming has brought down the family farm.

Not so much around here. The proximity of Mexico is the culprit, IMO. It's a lot cheaper to grow watermelons in Mexico than in Grady Co, OK.
