Are bridge players betting and spending money on each hand? Do they gamble on bridge in Casino's? Blackjack has historically been the best payout odds in Casinos. That's why people count cards to beat the odds.
Adding multiple decks has just about made counting cards extinct in large casinos. I don't know what goes on behind closed doors of the high rollers, but the rule on the main floor is no counting at all.
I think it's totally unfair to penalize someone who uses their mind and memory to play blackjack. But Casinos aren't there to give their money away.
