has it ever occurred to you that there are other retail buyers that also want to buy the stock and put an offer to buy slightly above you at the high bid?

Why do they jump in front of me in line sometimes to buy what I want to buy - thus encouraging me to raise my buy price?

It's been explained more than once. MMs profit on the spread. The higher the volume, the more profitable for them. They don't care what the price is.
