IMO, those who sold their shares today really do not grasp the long term benefits to IDCC of the award. The award is a total victory for IDCC beyond what anybody predicted. I think Samsung is in a state of shock.
To all and Danny, You hit the nail on the head. Here's my thoughts. Many bought into the Samsung arbitration thinking it would also include a 3-G deal which would would be a guiding light for other companies to license 3-G.
Now today the news provides no 3-G deal which led some investors to think Samsung is going to take the same path as Nokia and ask to have the award vacated. That may well happen but it's not going to scare any of the long term investors like us. We all have been through rougher waters than this and waiting ( if we have to) for 6 months for almost 200 million is a walk in the park.
One common sense reason is LG. Who would of thought that rabbit would have been pulled out of the hat before a result in the Samsung arbitration?
Another thought is we had a complete different arbitration with Samsung years ago which also resulted in a decision by the ICC and Samsung was honorable as most Asian companies are and paid up.
This decision is over a lot more money so only time will tell if Samsung will honor the binding arbitration they agreed to.
The last strong point is the recent comments of a Federal Court who was quite upset with companies that agreed to binding arbitration and after the arbitrators decision the loser decided to bring it into a Federal Court and try and have the award vacated. M3S has brought that up several times and I think the court system may well start adding some more damages to these frivolous claims.
