Well, what was AMD's last layoffs amount to? I believe it was 10% of workforce and they seem to have done just fine.

As a matter of fact, it seems to have worked in their favor. Perhaps downsizing will help Intel in the long run. I hope so.

Irish article mentions VSP...
If this is what Intel is doing it is anything but Draconian. It certainly explains why the number is not known. With VSP (voluntary seperation program) it is just a way to accelerate attrition by offering money to leave. When Intel has done this in the past, not everybody was eligible either. We will see on Tuesday what is announced.
