What I'm saying is they can build a robot and they don't HAVE to have a patent. Of course they will have patents and in fact we have seen patents by SRI which we know they are licensing technology from. Also someone said they saw a patent for a mobile cart. In any event it is unlikely that someone can simply make an exact copy of the robot and be successful with it because there is a lot more going into the verb robotic platform and we're talking about a surgical robot not a cell phone. I am sure that JnJ has figured this out. Also they will sell this CHEAP and or leverage their product use to pay for or reduce the cost of the platform will they not? You can bet the farm on that. They don't need to make their money on the sale of the platform. So simply making a replica of the robot won't work. You need to offer the customer what JnJ can and not many companies are big enough to do that. It's an advantage that the others are gonna have a hard time overcoming including ISRG in the future. ISRG has a great product but they were the first and didn't have competition for the first 20 years!
That's gonna change in the next couple years. Verb/JnJ/Google and Medtronic/Covidien are coming to the party. Gotta think differently. Mom and pop robotic companies are gonna be eaten up by the big boys. Hopefully if Titan has to go it alone the product will be successful enough initially to be bought out.
Are we really to believe that VERB has no robot and that SPORT is their robot? They have a robot and it isn't SPORT. Whether or not they have a bunch of patents for it remains to be seen.
