The fact that we start a team around a #2 hitter is ridiculous, no matter how good he is, whether you like a DH, ORTIZ, you build your offense through a guy in the middle of the lineup. Have I Lost it?
Fine I will use the Mets as an example. I love Reyes, but If you give me a choice I'm taking Beltran, Wright, Or Delgado tomorrow over him. That is where you start building your team in the middle of your lineup. You do not build your team around a #1/#2 hitter, the Reason why Jeter is incredible is because he has been on good teams, so his intangibles matter. Jeter would not be a hall of famer if he was on the Kansas city Royals. What makes him great is that he comes through in a big spot, so the fact that you build your team around him is nuts. The fact that you put A-rod, Giambi, Abreu in the middle of the lineup and then put Jeter in the lineup. That is why Jeter has been successful, not to say he wouldn't be good anywhere else, the point being is the fact that he is on the Yankees is what makes him great, that he has all the resources around him to put him in big spots, where his game clearly steps up to above his talent level in my opinion.
