They are fighters, Giambi is a different player now than he was, Do they want to win, sure they do, Does Sheffield want to win? He says he does and he is a fearsome hitter. However, If you gave me a choice of Giambi and Tino, I would take Tino. There are times Giambi has carried the team this year and there were times Tino carried the team when he was there. But I don't believe Giambi nor Sheffield have the same determanation. If either of them were forced off the team like Tino was, They would just move on to another team. Tino was visably distraught. How many Word Series have the Yankees not only played in but lost since that team of the mid to late 90's and 2000 and 2001 teams have? They have played in one and won zero. If you gave me the 98 or 99 team and the 2003 team I would take the 98 team and the 99 team over that team any day. They are not the same type of players.
One more thing about Sheffield, I prefer him over Giambi. Giambi has a great eye at the plate and it shows with his high O.B.P. But I think that Sheffield is a better contact hitter and there are many times with one out and a man on 3rd and they need to get that runner in, I think I wish Sheffield was playing and not Giambi because all we need is a sacrifice fly and we would get that guy in. Giambi walks and then bam, a double play and inning is over.
