BOREALIS

Donald Trump is toying with refusing to concede if he loses. That’s horrifying.

We’re a month away from the election, and Trump is already predicting Hillary Clinton will steal it.

Updated by Dara Lind @DLind dara@vox.com Oct 4, 2016, 9:40a

The rest of the political world has spent the past several days dissecting a devastating report from the New York Times about Donald Trump’s 1995 tax returns. Trump has spent it, at least in part, warning his followers that Hillary Clinton is about to steal the election.

In two rallies over the weekend, Trump told his followers that Clinton is planning massive voter fraud in "certain areas" (and asked them to serve as vigilante election monitors on his behalf). It’s so clear that a Clinton victory is only possible if the vote is rigged in her favor, in fact, that Trump told the New York Times on Friday he may not concede after all.
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/01/us/politics/donald-trump-interview-bill-hillary-clinton.html?_r=2

This kind of thing has happened once too often to be a coincidence: Whenever things are looking especially dire for Trump’s hopes of winning the presidency, he starts telling his supporters that victory is about to be stolen from underneath their feet.

That a vote for Trump is the last chance his supporters will have to save the republic before Hillary Clinton distorts it into something absolutely unrecognizable.

That it may already be too late.

This is the darkest, most conspiratorial, and most potentially dangerous theme in Trump’s rhetoric. Over the weekend, after a terrible week for the Trump campaign ended with the New York Times’s revelations that Trump had lost more than $900 million in a single year, that theme came roaring back.

Of course, it’s no coincidence that Trump is encouraging paranoia in this atmosphere: Circumstances certainly seem to be conspiring against him (even if the government isn’t).

No matter his ultimate motivation for questioning a Clinton victory — whether he really believes that’s what will happen, or because he thinks it’s a good marketing strategy for securing fans' loyalty — he is (once again) idly jackhammering at the bedrock of democracy: the willingness to accept when your opponent has won.
"You will never ever have this chance again"

When the Times published pages from Trump’s 1995 tax returns on Saturday night, the candidate was delivering a speech at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

The campaign attempted to have Trump respond to the Times onstage at the rally by reading a short statement. Instead, they unleashed a torrent of Trumpian ad lib (captured by Jenna Johnson for the Washington Post) — culminating in a bit of hyperbole that would embarrass most self-respecting used car salesmen:

"You have 38 days to make every dream you ever dreamed for your country come true," Trump said. "Do not let this opportunity slip away or be wasted. You will never ever have this chance again. Not going to happen again. … You have one magnificent chance."

It sounds ridiculous and downright absurd.

It’s the sort of promise that most politicians are far too cautious and responsible to make. If voters write it off as an exaggeration, that’s bad, because it means the politician isn’t trusted.

If voters believe it, that’s arguably worse — because what if he’s asked to keep his word? Politicians have been driven from office for breaking promises much smaller than "every dream you ever dreamed of for your country [will] come true."

GOP Website Declares Mike Pence Debate Winner...Before Debate Begins

Oct 4, 2016
The official GOP website made a grand old gaffe ahead of the vice presidential debate Tuesday night -- declaring Republican candidate Mike Pence the winner before the event was scheduled to start.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the GOP [ https://gop.com/who-won-the-vice-presidential-debate/ ] announced that Mike Pence was the "clear winner" of the debate, more than an hour before ahead of the start time. The GOP [ http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/us/republican-party.htm ] went on to list Pence's top moments were when discussing the economy and highlighting Hillary Clinton [ http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/whitehouse/hillary-clinton.htm ]'s scandals.
"Mike Pence made the most of his opportunity to debate Hillary's VP pick Tim Kaine [ http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/us/tim-kaine.htm ]," the GOP wrote. The page has since been taken down.
The website announced that the "other clear winner" of the debate was someone who isn't expected to utter a word during the broadcast -- other than through his live-tweets -- Donald Trump [ http://abcnews.go.com/topics/news/donald-trump.htm ].
As Trump's running mate, Pence "perfectly shared Trump's vision to make America great again" during the debate, according to the GOP.

Every day Trump proves the sociopath and narcissist diagnosis so many experts in the field have
published on him. With every denial of accountability he serves up further indisputable proof.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder Traits: No Accountability

By Amy Adam

One of the most destructive and disturbing narcissistic personality disorder traits is a severe lack of accountability. This is
in fact one of the most powerful warnings that you are dealing with an individual who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder.

How do you know when you’re dealing with this narcissistic personality disorder trait?

This narcissistic personality disorder trait shows up when this person never admits being wrong. It was not their fault,
someone else was to blame, and they will employ all sorts of tactics and defences to avoid being accountable.

Let’s look at what some of the defences and tactics of this narcissistic personality disorder trait

• Avoidance: Refusing to recognise or acknowledge the incident as real or important to you

• Excuses: Making up stories or reasons for the behaviour that are not genuine or valid excuses

• Accusations: Blaming someone else for the wrongdoing

• False Apology: Saying a ‘sorry’ that is not a genuine apology, and expecting you to accept it

• Confusion: Creating antics over trivial points in the conversation to shift and confuse the focus

• Projection: Stating ‘what you did wrong’ regarding the particular topic by using ammunition from the past that has nothing to do with the present incident

• Using Allies: Quoting people real or imagined to back their ‘story’ of excuses, or to discredit you

• Shutting down: Unwilling to have the conversation or abandoning the sceneto avoid scrutiny

• Shifting Focus: Responding with displeasure to your body language .. http://www.selfgrowth.com/bodyl.html .. or the tone of your voice to steer the conversation away from the wrongdoing

• Persecution: Stating how bad your accusations are, and what a terrible person you are to accuse

• Denial: Stating that it was incidents in your past, and your fears and insecurities which causes you to make these accusations

• Discrediting: Stating that you are such a negative person and always look for the ‘conspiracy theory’ in your conversations

• Threatening: Citing abandonment or punishment if you continue with the accusation

• Entitlement: Demanding that you recognise the positive things they have done for you, andthat its unfair for you to focus on the negatives

• Lying: Stating they did grant explanation, reassurance, or did do the credible thing when these actions were not forthcoming

• Condemnation: Continuing the story of “I did do the right thing” and then being incensed at you for calling them a liar

• Justification: Stating ‘I did it’ because of your behaviour and because you make me do these things

• Triggering: Using a maiming comment related or unrelated to incite you to anger and shift blame

• Competition: Stating all the things that they are not happy about with you, as a ‘tit for tat’ retaliation, rather than addressing the issue at hand

The narcissistic personality disorder trait no accountability is incredibly disturbing. When confronted with some or many of these tactics you will feel incredibly invalidated, confused, foggy and unsafe. When dealing with this narcissistic personality disorder trait you will feel that the harder you try to get this person to take responsibility and accountability, the more toxic the conversation becomes. This person will use any tools in their arsenal such gaslighting and projecting to make sure they do not have to admit fault.

When dealing with someone with narcissistic personality disorder traitsit is important to realise that this person does not have remorse and no matter how hard you try they are not capable of admitting they are wrong. Instead of trying to fight for justice and get accountability from the narcissist, accept that their behaviour is due to their disorder and consider using boundaries or implementing no contact – whereby you remove all forms of contact with this person.

The fact that Trump has been able to move so very close to the presidency should raise many
questions, and much concern, for the future health and welfare of too many voters in the U.S.A.
