Truthfully, there is not an advantage there,because in a traditional gas or diesel motor the battery is used to start the car and then the alternator charges the battery and keeps running the voltage\power needs. At this point the battery is acting as a reference for the alternator and isolation from voltage variances.

In applications where the battery is the primary energy source for the device is where the advantage is, where the power density makes a difference.

Applications such as electric cars, cellular phones, cameras, drones these are situations where the battery will be charged and then taken away from the charging source to be the primary power provider thus giving the user mobility and range.

Having mobility for longer periods of time is the motivation for adoption of this type of battery.
