They have contracts, money allocated, legally cannot back out. Creditors don't like it, as they are fighting for scraps, with almost nobody getting even close to getting paid. Of course in that situation, shareholders get zip. 100% mathematical certainty. Its the law. Sun Edison will very likely continue as a company, probably even do well, after recapitalization. This means you will have to buy stock in the reorganized Sun Edison if you want to invest.

After stiffing every creditor that did business with the company, they might have trouble getting credit even after reemergence.
They might have to pay cash for everything, like they do now.
