I consider them only one of many factors here.

What struck me about those friends who have had a second MI ( sometimes fatal ) ...was how normal their Lipid panels were on the meds they were on in the weeks / months prior to their 2nd MI
( yes its what us CAD patients do over espresso at Peets ...compare Lipid Panels ..:-)

The highest risk factor ( in my limited sample ) was if they had stents . JL or James could comment better on this then myself but it seems that once you have had one CV event ( and survived it but required stents ) your risk of a 2nd CV event is very high regardless of your LDL levels .

And we don't know what % of those in R-IT have stents , altho I content that a lot more will have been enrolled post May 2013
