Medicis used to have the US marketing rights to Dysport for cosmetic indications, and even their top-flight salesforce could not make much headway. The problem was (and is) that Dysport is not as good a product as Botox.

Allergan’s Botox was approved for its first indication in 1989 for an aesthetic application.

Actually, the first FDA approval for Botox (in 1989) was for strabismus and blepharospasm, which I would not consider aesthetic/cosmetic indications.
