Pyth, well this last post of yours absolutely clinches it for me. You are by no means an honest broker of information. You have a specific agenda regarding Vascepa and whatever your game is. We are all aware of the difference between LDL-C and LDL-P, SIZE does matter. I and I hope others on this board will no longer give your BS any credibility. Realize this is all "Just Your Opinion" and have determined your opinion is worthless. Good luck to you.

Vegans and CVD risk..

Quote from P: "Vegans have the "worst" EPA/AA ratios out there. But even when data are corrected for BMI, etc., show the lowest incidence of CVD or MACE than any other group."

I'd like to see a source for that info, but lets accept the facts that 1) Vegans have relative low CVD risks and 2) they have low EPA blood levels..

What is the explanation?..Well CVD risk and other degenerative diseases are inflammatory or auto immune driven..The evolutionary playbook follows the rule that diet sets chronic inflammatory levels. If food is scarce the body conserves its fuel for physical activity and lowers the inflammatory thermostat..The energy expenditure needs to be concentrated on acquiring food. If food sources are plentiful more resources are allotted to protection against micro organisms and malignancies..and inflammatory levels are high.

The EPA/AA ratio is certainly the most ancient system controlling inflammation, but there are other systems that also effect chronic inflammation..One is the recently discovered Amino Acid Starvation pathway..

For a long time there has been some evidence that caloric restriction can increase longevity..Some studies suggest that not only do the animals live longer, they remain in the youthful state longer..Well it has been discovered that the caloric restriction effect is probably actually the restriction of certain amino acids..proline being one of them. The absolute or relative absents of these specific amino acid actually decreases the conversion Of naive T-cells into T-h17 (T helper cells type 17) that are highly inflammatory..Instead naive T-cells are converted into T-regs which are not inflammatory..

This could explain the Vegan effect...

There are so many bad papers that are written by the nutrition industry..Where conflict of interest meets no formal challenge, that it is hard to believe anything that comes out of "nutrition".
