I've been hammering illegal immigrants because, IMO, we CANNOT continue to absorb them. Having said that I'm strongly in favor of Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Beginning with strict border security.
I don't believe for a minute that there are only 11 million here. We've been fed that number for 15 -20 years.
I would aggressively strengthen the border. At the same time I'd start registering illegals. I'd give them 2 years to come forward. Along the way, any felons or serial misdemeanor offenders would be bio metrically identified deported . The ones that pass the screening process would also be so identified It would be the start of continuing E verify.
Congress can come up with penalties for those that came here illegally. After passing the screening process, they will be issued Green Cards. They could then join the existing path to citizenship.
The main reason I want to see legalization is that it is negative to have millions of people here that have no connection to America, To fear the authorities. We always hear that we are a Nation of Immigrants. True. But in the past a vast majority of our immigrant assimilated.
As it is today there is little assimilation going on.
I've never bought into Trump's Deport 'em all, along with their American citizen children. That was stupid from the get go. I think Trump has come to that realization also. He's stopped talking about it.
