#1405 RE: midas98 #1404

Midas,

Interesting idea... although I thought this board and Zeev's Politics board kind of worked that way just not in an organized fashion.

The board would set up the different divisions of government etc... Would follow was going on in our existing government and see how they would make decisions and policies given the same information. ( Albeit, we could probably only act upon what was in the media and our government has more access to information than we do. ) But, I thought it would be interesting. Of course, it would take a lot of people and quite a bit of time.

I think the key to the problem is what you mentioned above... "given the same information" ( your caveat noted as well). On the surface it would seem that given the same set of facts people could come to consensus. However, basic belief systems vary and what is important or a priority to one person isn't necessarily for another. For example, the first thing I would cut out of every government budget is anything that supports art programs. I heard recently that there are millions of dollars being funded for bringing shakespear plays to the troops. Although that's a nice idea, in times of economic crisis it should be cut out IMO. I recognize however that some people would put a high priority on art and culture.

I like your rational approach and think if we apply the concepts of providing info and focusing on solutions, this would be a better board.

Midas...I think you have a good idea... But I think you need at least two boards.

If you are serious I suggest we could try this. Go here
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/bills/index.html

It is the search database for the congressional record.

Type in H.R.2473
Which is just a suggestion. We could use any issue we want any bill. We could follow it in the House and or Senate and debate it completely outside of the media. We could even compare how it is reported in the media.

H. R. 2473 [Report No. 108-178, Parts I and II] To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide for a voluntary program for prescription drug coverage under the Medicare Program, to modernize the Medicare Program, and for other purposes.
