AVXL may assume a lot of unnecessary risk by extending the PART B again. The first extension made sense in that donepezil becomes pretty much worthless at 12 months. The 12 month comparison should look really good for A2-73.

Should A2-73's results become less remarkable after 12 months, it could hurt AVXL's partnering position and it's ability to gain grants.

If AVXL already had Phase 3 funding, the extension would make more sense.

However, the Company may not see additional risk.

IMHO

Frrol you make very valid points but even as late as January 11 Missling said "we look forward to advancing ANAVEX 2-73 into a larger Phase 2/3 study for Alzheimer’s". I could be all wrong here but one would have to ascertain from that statement that first patients would keep dosing as they dove tail the trial into Phase 2/3. Hopefully this will all be cleared up at the next "scientific meeting". It would have been nice if Missling would have thrown shareholder a bone though.

Actually something makes more sense now... On their last visit Jan 5th, they were told by one of the doctors that an extension of six months had been approved. I assumed they were confused (my family member and carer) and were talking about the extension that we already know about.

It could well be another extension for the earlier trial participants? Because everyone had already been told about the first extension, so that wasn't "news". Further extensions have certainly been discussed from day one. We said "if this thing works, but takes years to approve, what happens?". All the other participants we have met asked the same thing.

We were told in this case they would do everything they could to continue to provide the medication and extend the trial (as long term effects were something they would need to monitor anyway).

My family member is just reaching 4 months, so we should know a lot more about extensions etc. before we have to worry about the end of the 12 months.

Hey frrol, excuse my ignorance but is 273 being tested only in Australia or are there patients in other countries involved? I guess I want to know if its being tested (clinical trials) here in USA.
