From the Philadelphia Business Journal article dated 8/21:
"If IDC gets involved in some products that add value to the [equipment] or semiconductor manufacturers, it can only help the licensing process," Carpenter said. "If you're only trying to be a toll collector, and you're not adding any additional value or products, it's very hard to license to companies."
Bill Merritt from yesterday conference call:
". Lastly we continue to demonstrate our flexibility in structuring deals that include both patent licenses and technology cooperation. We think this is particularly relevant in the current environment where, right or wrong, the traditional IPOR business model is under increasing scrutiny. "
Philips agreement:
"Rather than just license software to the giant Dutch electronics firm, InterDigital also will design the chip on which the software will run. "
Lucent agreement:
"(Tantivy) have entered into a combined
patent license and technology agreement with Lucent Technologies, Inc. (Lucent).
From the earnings announcement:
"Further, we intend to acquire a market-proven legacy 2G protocol stack solution that, in combination with our 3G
protocol stack, will be offered to mobile device manufacturers in
conjunction with our patents."
Bill Merritt in yesterday's conference:
"By extending our critical stack offering to a dual-mode capability, we will have the viable products that we can offer to tier two handset manufacturers in combination with our patents. By creating higher value for the combined offerings, we believe we can create a higher probability of including license agreements bodes faster and at a higher value. "
