This is only a feeling but I was expecting this stock to stage something of a reverse today. No, I never saw this leaping for the moon as it did. I was as shocked as anyone could be, frankly.
A couple of things come into play here:
Today closed out the last of this year's opportunities to divest ourselves of pig stocks for the sake of tax-loss provisions that play into tax obligastions in a few months. That had me thinking this morning that today's trading session might put cash into the pockets of would-be investors. Many of us retireds seek refuge in income producers offering high yields. With NTI about to fall by the wayside into the arms of its General (controlling)Partner WNR, I'm betting many investors from the NTI camp are migrating into ALDW & NGL as both sport promising payout schedules. I'm one!
So that's my thesis---people wanting to get squared away with cash placed in a smart place to greet the new year--- And to do it they had to close out unpromising situations gone sour as in the case of NTI. NGL has suffered hugely due to the oil collapse and today climbed 97 cents. Pretty fine for a $10 pick. But nobody is gonna beat ALDW today, right?
If oil can hold about where it is now, I think and hope we'll see some stabilizing in January. It may become a new norm of sorts.
