Blatant lie -

The SEC wants to conduct a formal investigation to look into the company’s internal matters. In a filing, the company stated that the subpoena and investigation to the recent unusual activity in the market pertains to the company’s shares.

Can company at least defend this statement?
Can it clarify if company is under investigation or not?

Can the normal crowd contact IR and see if company can issue the clarification or not?

There are articles in bloomberg and Barrons on the subject - it raises more concerns as they are reputable publications.

But that quote is not from the company or the SEC. If they were investigating trading in AVXL they would first have to rule out irregular activity by the company.

The rest is an unknown.

The Company believes the subpoena and investigation relate to the recent unusual activity in the market for the Company’s shares. The Company is fully cooperating with the SEC in this investigation and is unable to predict when this matter will be resolved or what further action, if any, the SEC may take in connection with it.

The 10-K statement isn't even remotely similar to what you quoted -
