Even if they request an extension--and extensions are automatically granted--the companies are still delinquent.

An extension for a late 10-K grants the company 15 extra calendar days; an extension for a late 10-Q grants five extra calendar days.

That applies only to OTC issuers; the rules are different for exchange-listed companies.
