Kinder Morgan says no need to issue shares for 'foreseeable future'
Rich Kinder, executive Chairman of Kinder Morgan, said earlier on the company's 2016 outlook call that the operating results of the company are "strong," pointing out that in a "terrible economic environment for the energy business" that the company expects to finish the year within 5% of its 2015 budget for EBITDA. Kinder said that the company's assets are "performing well and largely as expected", stating that primarily what is changed in recent months is the price of its common stock. "The current reduced price of our stock has raised the cost of our equity to the point where it is no longer an economic source of expansion capital," said Kinder, explaining that left the company to decide to either give up its backlog of growth projects and give up some "very important, very profitable long-term projects" in the process or decide instead, as it has, to use part of its distributable cash flow to fund new projects and to adopt a different dividend policy. The company expects to have "no need to access the equity markets for the foreseeable future" and expects to "substantially reduce" its reliance on the debt market, Kinder added.
