The presidential candidate of Argentina’s ruling coalition conceded defeat in Sunday’s presidential runoff to Mauricio Macri, the conservative mayor of Buenos Aires.
…With more than 71% of votes counted by the electoral authority on Sunday night, Mr. Macri, the candidate of the Let’s Change opposition coalition, had 53.2%, well ahead of Mr. Scioli’s Victory Front with about 46.8%, in a race seen as a rejection on President Cristina Kirchner’s interventionist economic policies.
… Mr. Macri has signaled that he also aims to improve frayed ties with the U.S. He said he would seek to have Venezuela expelled from the Mercosur trading block… [making] him the first Latin American leader to call for tough action against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Argentine President Mauricio Macri on Monday eliminated export taxes on beef, corn and other farm products, a move that could dramatically boost the country’s agricultural output.
Argentina produces around 100 million tons of grain and soybeans annually, making it one of the world’s leading farm exporters.
Eliminating the taxes, which currently range from 15% to 23%, could help boost production to 180 million tons by 2025…
