As a lifelong Cub fan, they won't do it. It's not they can't do it. They won't do it.
Maybe if/when the attendance drops, but not now. For what?!? They had an extra $40 million to spend this year. They put rookies in left field and shortstop. They started the year with Blue Cross and Blue Sheild (Wood and Prior) on the DL. They knew this season was a throwaway and they did nothing to try and be competitive.
Take a look at the All-Star line-ups. How many of those guys took their talent to the All-Star game in a new uniform. They changed teams which means the Cubs could have thrown in a legitimate bid if they wanted to be competitive. Every winter, the Cubs throw out a token bid to a superstar, just so they can say they tried.
