I'm writing my program for the PC because I hate Macs. :) Heheh.
I'm not sure I'm going to release it to the public, fear of being sued by people if the math messes up or something is not high on my list of things to do. We'll see when I complete it.
Essentially, my program currently has a few features:
1) A portfolio view that lists your stock, it's share price today, your total value in that stock and the advice.
2) A stock view that gives you all of the information on your stock, price, buy and sell advice, minimum amount for trade, your trade history, you can add buy/sell or vealies on this screen as well. This screen (I'm adding right now) also has 'research' buttons that will take you directly to that stocks screen on popular sites such as Yahoo and Motley Fool so you can check out the news and charts on your stocks you already own easily as well.
3) A 'piggy bank' screen that allows you to track your loose change on a daily basis. In just saving my loose change (I only use bills to buy things, never, ever spend change) I saved $800 in a year and a half. I track this on this screen and get an average saved per day, etc...this is kind of for my own use.
I'm currently working on adding a 'watching' page for stocks I'm currently watching that will display the stocks price and the chart with the 50 and 200 day moving averages on them so I can see them at a glance. I only purchase stocks that are under the averages and in an up trend, so by making a section in my program to view this quickly, it should take me 5 minutes a day to 'work.'
Some features I don't have in currently that I need to add are a way to record that you deposited cash into your trading fund that is not allocated to a stock yet and the ability to adjust the parameters for a stock you already own. I have a lot of extra cash so I simply made the math add 25% to each of my holdings as 'cash' for those Investments, so I didn't need to sell off shares to generate the cash for each of my stocks. I'm not sure how important this type of feature would be to people. It seems kind of willy nilly to sell off shares to force yourself to have cash, so I don't do it.
I'll probably send a version of my program to Tom once I get some of the kinks out and see what he thinks and see if we can't add a few more features. In any event, I don't plan on selling it, I may add a 'tip me' button if people like it or make money off of it. I may also add some links to good charities to donate money to if you do well like the Make a Wish Foundation.
