two things: first and most importantly, i have never met a new yorker that i didn't like. which includes my girlfriend and her entire family, from dobbs ferry. if somebody doesn't like people from new york, then they've clearly never met any. second, the reason i believe "most" baseball fans do not like the yankees? in a word, jealousy. i cannot speak to the owners that pocket the luxury tax paid by "king george", but i can say that the luxury tax he pays is not enough to afford any other club a payroll that is a few dollars short of $200,000,000.
now here's where i feel the real "jealousy" come into play. i believe (speaking for myself) the "jealousy" or "hatred" comes into play because the yankees are able to afford to keep the star players that they develop. perfect relatively recent example, the pittsburgh pirates. late 80's early 90's built themsleves a nice little squad that won three straight division titles, but then their nucleus (bonds, bonilla, drabek) became to expensive for them to retain. the result? the pirates have not even sniffed the post-season since 1992.....

PS: i do realize none of the pirates
mentioned went to the yankees, it's just an example.
