Manitowoc Co. to split crane, food service businesses

Manitowoc Co.'s board of directors has approved a plan to separate its crane and food-service equipment businesses into two independent, public companies.

The spinoff is expected to be completed in early 2016.

Analysts say Manitowoc generates roughly two-thirds of its revenue from construction cranes, but its operating earnings have been higher in the division that makes ice machines and food-service equipment.
