#323 RE: midas98 #321

Because logic tells me that if he didn't knowingly lie then we have far more serious problems regarding our security.

Here is what I believe and what has appeared in the press.

1 - Cheney sent a former ambassador to check out the information and that ambassador said it was false

2 - The CIA also checked out hat information and said it was false

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52813-2003Jun12.html?nav=hptop_ts

Yet we are to believe that Condoleeza Rice had no knowledge of that even though cables from the CIA and reports from the former ambassador were sent to the White House.

That tells me few things -

a - Cheney knew and may have kept it all quiet and kept this information from both RIce and Bush

or

b - Cheney and Rice knew and kept it from Bush

or

c - Bush knew

In addition if A and or B are true then both should leave ASAP (fired would be better) because they should never ever not tell the President and let the President lie to the American people. Didn't the right wing get upset when Clinton let his people lie about sex when he told them it was not true? In addition Bush should know the story by now and nothing has happened. So I lean toward C. Bush knew the documents were forged and used it anyway.

My reasons are because after he used them in his speech the intelligence community - CIA -would have informed him after the fact that they were forged. Nothing was said about it until after Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said they were forged in his UN report. He said the UN only made two calls to determine it was a forgery.

Now I don't want to get into the security problems we have if Bush feels comfortable with his people not telling him things like this but if it's not C I'm really worried that people around him are shaping events and not our elected President who would then be adrift on the water and kidnapped by far smarter people than he appears to be.
