The CPI as a tool to measure inflation is a crock. 40% of it is rent while less than 30% of the population rents.

Adjusted for reality inflation is running at about twice 2-1/2 times the "official" rate. The Government saves on Social Security outlays by using the "official" rate for the COL increases.
