drjohn, DIY prices are usually quite lower than what most people have to pay. Open a "computer shopper" magazine, or something like this, and you will be amazed. You can see an over-$4000 PC there. Of course I always upgrade my computer myself, and with AMD you can go quite cheaper than the price you've mentioned.
