Tina: Actually, the Salvation Army is the most efficient crisis provider. In 1916, my father, his three siblings and his dad (my grandfather) were in Indianapolis, Indiana on Christmas eve with no food, let alone Christmas presents. My dad's mother (my grandmother) had passed away a few years earlier. My grandfather had been out of work for months and they were desperate. They heard a knock on the door. They opened the door to find no one there, but there was a large basket of food left there by the Salvation Army. I will never forget that and I give to them every year at Christmas time. Just a personal experience.
