It is interesting that Matsushita was listed as two different Corporate entities under license with IDCC in their latest 10K..One that is only licensed for 3G ..and the Original Corporation that was licensed for 2G..I would hope that IDCC will elaborate on the distinction. It may well be that Matsushita is paid up in full for all but 3G..

Mschere, Wouldn't you think Matsushita as well as Sharp are in the same boat?

From IDCC 10Q..Where is reference to old 2G license? Is it still in force..or did Matsushita for a new Corporate entity and that is only licensed currently with IDCC for 3G? Which patent offices and which patents?

Matsushita (Panasonic)

Based on progress within various worldwide patent offices and the commencement of modest build out of 3G systems and handset sales worldwide, we expect in 2003, to be able to recognize royalty revenue on Matsushita’s sales of covered products under our 3G (CDMA) patent license agreement with Matsushita. However, given the modest build out of 3G systems and our expectations as to Matsushita’s level of 3G sales in 2003, we do not anticipate recognizing significant royalty revenue under this agreement during 2003. The timing and amount of such revenue will be dependent upon a number of factors, including whether Matsushita effects sales of covered 3G products in 2003, the timing and volume of any such sales, where the covered products are sold, and continued progress and success within patent offices as to certain ITC patents. Any revenue recognized in 2003 associated with sales of covered 3G products will first be applied against Matsushita’s $19.5 million royalty pre-payment made in 2001.

My comment..I read this document several times and overlooked..and it took RMARCHMA to point out the Matsushita current status..IDCC will only collect..when Matsushita sells 3G enabled devices.

From IDCC 10K..Certain of our licenses are paid-up, and do not require the payment of further royalties, either in whole or in part. For example, with certain limitations, Siemens AG (Siemens) is paid-up under certain of ITC’s patents for 2G and 3G products, NEC is paid-up for PDC and PHS products, Nokia is paid-up for TDD products based upon the scope of technology delivered under the funded development plan, and Matsushita Electric is paid-up for TDMA-based 2 and 2.5G products.
