Re Dew's original post about the GE poster who doesn't seem to know what GE is really about: it would be interesting to survey average Americans, giving them the name of a widely-known company and asking what that company does. Many answers would be far from accurate.

As you probably know, the existing Monsanto is a distinct legal entity from the original company with that name; from MON’s 10-K:

Monsanto was incorporated in Delaware on Feb. 9, 2000, as a subsidiary of Pharmacia Corporation. Monsanto includes the operations, assets and liabilities that were previously the agricultural business of Pharmacia. Pharmacia is now a subsidiary of Pfizer Inc.
