Bill, I think it is just the option level that you are signed up for. By increasing your liquid net worth and net worth to the next level should bump you to the next highest option level which should be buying calls. I ran into this with Fidelity so not sure if it will be the same for TD Ameritrade.

Bill Dalglish - In the past, I have purchased IDCC call options in my Roth IRA at Wachovia. Wish I had some in that account now. But I do own some $22.50 June calls in my regular brokerage with Scott & Stringfellow.

Bill, Schwab does allow it now. They started to allow this within the last year.

Thanks for that helpful information on where one can buy call option contracts inside a Roth IRA.

Thanks as well for private messages on this topic.

Conclusion seems to be:
OptionsXpress, Wachovia, Schwabb, Fidelity, and Ameritrade will accepts call option buys in Roth IRA.

TDWaterhouse (now called TDAmeritrade) says they will allow call options when merger is complete with Ameritrade this summer.

epbtom's suggestion of OptionsXpress is an interesting one. I never heard of them before. Their web site indicated commissions are only about a penny and a half per share vs 7 to 15 cents at TDWaterhouse. They also indicate insurance against failure of the brokerage up to $500,000 (and cash up to $100,000.)

Can anyone report on experience with OptionsXpress?

Thanks!!

Bill
