Benji, What's your point. If you would have bought MSFT in 1989 you would have been better off than your example. My point was that in modern times much of the earnings have been passed on to the employees with little regard for the owners of the comapny. Basically in investing you buy a comapny for it's earnings or potential for earnings later. (put the stock trading mindset behind you for a minute). Companies like ADBE and MSFT have reached their potential but are not passing on those profits to the owners but are distributing them to employees instead in the form of stock based compensation. Investors have become too passive over the yeras because they became content with share price appreciation. I think we could see a time where a company like ABDE could go from infancy, to maturity, to death without ever returning a dime to the owners, or shareholders. I think we will are coming to a time when shareholders may once again demand a distribution of profits.
