'English has been spoken in North America as for as long as Spanish'
Well right there you demonstrate your grasp of history, what can i say .... i know, i'll tell you a story, let's not let any actual facts confuse your mind -
Once upon a time a man named Coronado was wandering around this continent, among the things he did was introduce smallpox and re-introduce the horse, which had believe it or not originally developed here, but had died out, probably got eaten by we hungry mejicanos, you know how we love our carnitas eh, well anyhow Coronada had quite a diary going, complete with maps and inventories and events, full details, and when he gets to large bodies of water we now call the Great Lakes, he decides to turn around and head back south .... but, not before labelling on his map the land to the north as Acá Nada .... 'here there is nothing' ... then when some frenchman shows up later, the locals have adopted this as a name for their country, and it comes to us now as Canada
Such a great story eh, it's used occasionally in political taunts here, quite useful and amusing, it really should be true .... we have not nothing here, we actually have two count em 2 official languages, this comes about as part of confederation negotiations way back, and causes us no new problems whatsoever, never mind them who bitch and moan about it, Québec is not going to separate and we'll always have something to squabble about, no worries on that score amigo .... you're right mlsoft, shit happens for sure, you are going to hear one day, no matter how much you try to avoid it, a little spanish in the street .... you'll just have to get over it, won't you .... you have any problems, just say so, we'll try to contact your Uncle Sam to turn you over his knee for a bit, whup yoh ass good, then read you some of those fine words of Liberty, in one language or another, lol .... cháu
