Ahhh! a puzzle. I agree that the one source is suspect but concede that Ahmadinejad and the mindset of Iran is certainly capable of making such a quote. Has to do with location, location, location. This is somewhat tormenting. Sadr who is aligned with Iran also made an intriguing remark. The suspect quote goes on to state the bomb will aid in Iran’s taking over Iraq which would end the national unity problem that Sadr spoke about.
The Bomb, blessed by God, will make Iran proud. It will force the West to let Iran dictate terms in the region, give Mr Ahmadinejad the prestige to crush dissent in his own country and help him grab world Muslim leadership, taking over Iraq. Mad, perhaps, terrifying, certainly, but perfectly sane as a way of staying on top. http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:V-xFbhAYbF4J:www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml%3Fxml%3D/opi...
Emerging from a meeting in the Shiite holy city of Najaf with secular Shiite parliamentarian Ahmed Chalabi, al-Sadr said: "All obstacles to forming a national unity government soon will be resolved." #msg-10025204
I have always associated any countries' pride especially Iran's with joining the nuclear club. Here are some more quotes.
The second reason that Iran is pushing to obtain nuclear power and weapons is that Iranians are a very proud people. They produce some of the top world scientists and doctors. It is an affront to their dignity that Nations like Pakistan and India are permitted to have nuclear power and they are not. Cirincione told Radio Farda that the accomplishments at the Isfahan facility were notable. "I was impressed by the advanced capabilities that were at the facility that were particularly the metallurgical capabilities at the Zirconium production plant that was making a very sophisticated alloy of Zirconium that is necessary to cover the nuclear fuel rods," Cirincione said. "Very few countries can do that, and the Iranians were proud that they have a facility to do that."
