"you obviously don't have the same information that I do"

Ah, the appeal to secret knowledge. /Shrug/ can't argue against that...

IBM was publishing benchmarks of the 64 bit version of DB2 against an Alpha with Oracle back in 2000. So work on DB2 for the Power3 started at some point well before this time. The Itanium version of DB2 wasn't released until the next year. Now true, they could have started on the Itanium version first, and then derived the Power3 code from that, but...

Ok, how about a couple of hints here? What aspect of the Itanium architecture could Opteron leverage off against?

Looking at the three processors, Itanium, Power3 and Opteron, I'd say that Power3 and Opteron were pretty close, architecturally speaking, and Itanium was very different. If I were to choose, I'd the Power3 code tree was used for Opteron instead of the Itanium. But I don't have the secret knowledge you have...

I am sorry, you make these claims that don't seem reasonable, and then when challenged claim secret knowledge. Are you sure you aren't really Dan3 playing another role?

Combjelly, you obviously don't have the same information that I do. You are speculating, then you are chastising my comments as if you know the inside truth.

You claim not to be an Intel employere nor a former Intel employee (in any sense of the word). In fact, you claim to have no connection to Intel whatsoever other than that a very interested and concerned Intel shareholder. Yet, you continue
to claim inside information on a wide series of topics. Please resolve this issue in a way people on this thread can believe.
For instance, what information do you have and how did you get it that gave you the "inside truth" It was clear Combjelly was speculating and it is just as clear you claim not to be speculating.
