Ah, the appeal to secret knowledge. /Shrug/ can't argue against that...

IBM was publishing benchmarks of the 64 bit version of DB2 against an Alpha with Oracle back in 2000. So work on DB2 for the Power3 started at some point well before this time. The Itanium version of DB2 wasn't released until the next year. Now true, they could have started on the Itanium version first, and then derived the Power3 code from that, but...

Ok, how about a couple of hints here? What aspect of the Itanium architecture could Opteron leverage off against?

Looking at the three processors, Itanium, Power3 and Opteron, I'd say that Power3 and Opteron were pretty close, architecturally speaking, and Itanium was very different. If I were to choose, I'd the Power3 code tree was used for Opteron instead of the Itanium. But I don't have the secret knowledge you have...

I am sorry, you make these claims that don't seem reasonable, and then when challenged claim secret knowledge. Are you sure you aren't really Dan3 playing another role?
