Hey Jake...might be worth poking around this site:

and fine-tuning which services are running and automatically start...

use services.msc in your run box---when the results box appears, you can see which services are running---single clicking a service will tell you what it is--double clicking will take you to where you can apply startup changes...

changing the way services start to the "safe" column is a good place to start...
