Right, you need a margin account. If you get the wrong customer service agent they'll just give you half the picture. Then again, I'm with Etrade.

Yes I'm trading on margin and have more than that. Here's my convo with support:

Are you sure you shorted OTCBB or pinksheet stocks? Sometimes it could be low priced NASDAQ or other exchange stocks. I have shorted low stocks before like ZIOP and others.
