Yes I'm trading on margin and have more than that. Here's my convo with support:

15:43 Scott_FW: hi, TD Ameritrade views all OTC stocks as non marginable, so you cannot short them through TD Ameritrade
15:44 jk: ok b/c i have a friend that is able to short OTC stocks through td ameritrade

15:45 Scott_FW: no, he would not be allowed to either. do you no which stocks he sold short?

15:46 Scott_FW: they may have just been low priced Nasdaq stocks

Are you sure you shorted OTCBB or pinksheet stocks? Sometimes it could be low priced NASDAQ or other exchange stocks. I have shorted low stocks before like ZIOP and others.
