It is a very thoughtful article but it hardly backs up his thesis. There's no debate that 3M is a great company but the book is yet to be written on its involvement in China.

3M's largest organic venture over the last decade was a massive expansion in China to produce Solar components. How's that working out? I'm not sure if it ever met its production goals prior to downsizing.

3M will have a nice consumer position in China but that isn't where they make their money. Their money is made in the industrial sector, and until labor costs explode in Asia they won't pay the price.

As far as Mask's go, take a trip to China and you'll see why they sell.
